France 1914 - Principles of War - 15mm WW1

France 1914

The German steam roller continues its march to the sea. A British Division, commanded by Paul, has been ordered to hold a strategic town. Greatly outnumbered by two Elite German Divisions this could be a tall order.

However help was on its way a in the form of a French Division under the command of Gregory. The attack started with the two German Divisions marching onto the table using “Movement Bases” to confuse the defenders as to where the main attack was to fall. Both sides started with “Movement Bases”which represented formations or blanks. Unfortunately for Vince with the left[1]hand Division his artillery was spotted early and took losses as they were still limbered.

At this time the British spotter plane shot down his German opponent. After a frenzies of spotting most of the Germans and British were deployed. The British were dug in and in skirmish formation. Not something that should be attacked frontally. So the Germans shook out into a firing line with off table support and began a long range fire fight hoping attrition would win the day.

On the opposite flank the German advance came to a halt as Gregor's gallant French surged forward the the elan expected from a French general. With the assistant of a British cavalry Brigade they drove back the Germans. Chas in charge of this German division had concentrated his artillery on the French guns

By the time this was done the German's far right had collapse. The game now was at a critical point, but time had run out. The result was a tactical German victory as they held the town but for how long? The rules used was “Principle of War” and the figures 15mm MiniFigs.

Thanks to Paul, Gregory and Vince for letting me have a trip down memory lane to use an old set of rules (which gave a good game) and even older figures that have not seen the light of day for years
